Polish pronunciation lesson with a learner practising the hard l sound beside a notebook and crimson bookmark

The sound l

A hard alveolar [l]. Not a soft ль, and not ł.

ławka / lawa, łata / lata split on this sound.

For l, that is a hard alveolar: the tip and the front of the tongue touch the upper alveoli, and the middle of the tongue does not rise.

Curl the tongue, touch the alveoli with the underside of the tip, and say l. A soft ль will not fit in that position. Words: las, lalka, pole, latać.

Open the «l» card in Letters and sounds. Say lampa in the trainer. Check a close pair in listening.
